My Story

The Change I Want to See in the World
I want to see naturally quiet individuals embrace the power in silence, and amplify our voices authentically when we need to make ourselves heard. I want to see law students and lawyers redefining what it means to have "character and fitness" to practice law, and what it means to be a "success" in the legal profession.
Books That Greatly Influenced My Life
The Artist's Way (Julia Cameron); Quiet (Susan Cain)
Fun Facts About Me
I've attended 25+ U2 concerts in 6 countries and can pretty much tie any conversation (or scholarly pursuit) back to a U2 lyric. I take boxing lessons. I study Italian.

Personal information

Bio
Heidi was born in Virginia and attended The University of Virginia for both undergraduate and law degrees. She practiced law for almost two decades in Virginia, New York, and California.

Heidi has lived in New York for 20 years. She is the author of a bunch of boring legal textbooks...and three books that make her happy: The Introverted Lawyer, Untangling Fear in Lawyering, and The Flourishing Lawyer. She has also written a memoir entitled The Map I Draw: A Memoir of Travel as a Passport to Self.

Heidi is currently a law professor in New York. She teaches legal writing. She gives presentations on about law student and lawyer well-being to law schools, bar associations, law firms, and international conferences on law and mental health. She is developing a positive psychology coaching practice.

Heidi loves writing and speaking about topics related to law student and lawyer well-being. She also love connecting with readers of her articles and books, to share stories of how lawyers have grappled with and untangled issues of stress, anxiety, and fear related to lawyering.
